Edible Garden Design

At Edibleculture we have a deep knowledge of knowing what will work, we grow all our own plants including interesting varieties of fruit, herbs, heritage veg and much more. Linked to this we utilise our range of planters many bespoke to fit even the smallest of space, growing a wide range of edible plants.

We like to produce a series of plans and sketches after we have spent time talking with you, we have found over time that it is important to carefully work through concepts, requirements and we recognise that this initial investment, if handled correctly, will make a garden bountiful and beautiful for decades.

Case Study 1:

Location: Whitstable, Kent

Size: 2.5m x 3.5m

After many years of the client having problems with growing plants successfully in the heavy clay soil, we came up with the solution of designing and building 4 raised planters to raise the growing space up and provide the plants with better quality medium. We placed the planters on weed suppressing membrane to reduce weeds and covered the pathways around them with bark chippings.

All bins with used to plant edibles which we selected based on the clients lifestyle and what would grow best in the local environment. Each planter had a standard soft fruit plant in the centre and herbs and veg plants surrounding. We used herbs such as Chamomile, Pineapple sage and Italian Thyme. Veg such as chillies, tomatoes and cucamelons. Lists of some of what we produce can be found by clicking on the relevant plants.

We are strong advocates of forest planting, mixing and matching plants to create a harmonious growing environment. If you want a low maintenance garden we know what will work best given your soil sample results. If you decide on a garden with a higher upkeep we can even build in a maintenance plan meaning we can plan months, even years in advance. You can define the level of maintenance you require, for example you may just want us to prune and maintain your fruit trees.
